Elderly Care Experts at Neighborly Home Care Remind Pennsylvanians That Options Exist for Winter Senior Financial Assistance
February 26, 2017 – Ardmore, PA – One of the most common issues in providing elderly care is ensuring the elderly remain safe during the winter, despite often being on limited fixed incomes. Household problems such as poor insulation or broken heating units can often be beyond the financial ability of seniors to repair, leaving them in a dangerous situation during the winter.
Neighborly Home Care wants to ensure that Pennsylvania residents are aware of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, LIHEAP, which exists specifically to help low-income individuals in such a situation. In many cases, seniors -particularly those with disabilities- are given priority when awarding assistance.
Those who qualify for LIHEAP automatically also qualify for a range of winter-related services and protections, including:
- Providing insulation and installation
- Fixing broken windows
- Repairing or replacing heaters and furnaces
The Weatherization Assistance Program can be of immense help to seniors who would be unable to pay for or install such fixes themselves. The LIHEAP program is directly responsible for improving the quality of life for seniors in the state, and also helping to save lives by preventing the harsh northeastern winters from doing them harm.
